electronics and computer engineering technology??
im going to Middlesex County college to start my degree in electronics and computer engineering technology. this is a two year college but then i will be transfering to NJIT to finish the degree. and was wondering wat type of jobs are available and some job discriptions about the degree
Engineering technology courses can be great, but consider positioning yourself to transfer into an engineering program.
I have a friend who took an industrial technology program while I was in industrial engineering. While we studied most of the same things (chemistry, physics, calculus, welding, finance, management, … ), at graduation my diploma said “engineer” on it.
While our educations were very similar, my program was an accredited engineering degree. Because of this, he did not get some of the same interviewing and job opportunities that I got. I could apply for jobs asking for the technology degree, but he was shut out of jobs that called for engineers.
In the very long run over a 30-40 year career of changing jobs, the differences between the degrees might not make a big difference. After the first few jobs, you are usually hired on accomplishments and ability, not what is printed on your diploma. An exception to that would be if a P.E. (professional engineer certification) is required. The technology-degreed person would not be able to qualify.
As far as salary difference between the two programs, I can’t comment. Both of us joined the Air Force as second lieutenants and were paid the exact same amount. He bacame a missileer and I was a project manager (a career field that was not open to him because of his degree).
